Work Permit Programme for a Mining Company's Specialist Workforce

The company needed 12 work permits processed within a ten-week window to meet the project's commissioning schedule.

    Headline Outcome

All 12 permits issued within the ten-week window. No late-entry fines. Skills transfer plans submitted and acknowledged by the Ministry. The HR team has a clear corporate immigration framework for future permit cycles. We have been retained as the company's immigration service provider for the duration of the project.

    The Client

A multinational mining company operating a copper and cobalt project in the Otavi Triangle, requiring specialist metallurgical and electrical engineers from Germany, Australia, and South Africa who could not be sourced locally within the required timeframe.

    The Challenge

The company needed 12 work permits processed within a ten-week window to meet the project's commissioning schedule. Its previous immigration service provider had a record of delays and had failed to submit complete application packages on the prior permit cycle, leading to two late-entry fines. The HR team needed a provider who could manage the full process systematically and coordinate directly with the Ministry of Home Affairs without constant prompting from the client.

    Our Approach

We designed a corporate immigration programme for the client covering the full permit cycle: document collection checklists for each nationality, employer accreditation renewal with the Ministry, application preparation and submission, and a tracking system with weekly status updates to the HR team. We managed all 12 applications in parallel, coordinating with the employees' home country advisors on authentication and apostille requirements for Australian and German documents. We also prepared the skills transfer plans required by the Ministry as a condition of each permit.

    The Outcome

All 12 permits issued within the ten-week window. No late-entry fines. Skills transfer plans submitted and acknowledged by the Ministry. The HR team has a clear corporate immigration framework for future permit cycles. We have been retained as the company's immigration service provider for the duration of the project.
